Could you introduce
the band to our readership ?
Hello Scholomance, hello France’s
metalheads and world wide . Before we started this interview, we thank you for
your webzine interview with us. We are Dante Must Die, a Melodic Death Metal
band from Indonesia, precisely from Surabaya. We have 5 members, Iam Ryan as
Vocalist, Leo as Bassist, Prastia Nanda as Guitar 1, Shave Val’jin as Guitar 2
and Nanda Prayoga as Drummer. We formed
in 2009, and brought the genre of Melodic Death Metal.
Could you give us
details about the Indonesian Metal scene ?
In Indonesia, we have
a good movement with many variations increasingly modern Metal music. And also a lot of bands with a variety of materials and qualities. We have a lot
of Metal music fans who make we can still work until this moment. And in
here, we have a lot of Metal music festivals in a national or international
scale, such as Rock In Solo, Rock In Celebes, Bandung Berisik, Hammersonic,
Surabaya Berontak etc.
The name of the band
comes from Devil May Cry video game ? Why this choice ?
Absolutely yes,
because the level of play required to perform the best ability. With
this philosophy, we want to do and make the best materials for our songs. As
well as doing our best in every performance on stage. And it outlines that why
we use the name DANTEMUSTDIE.
Your first album
« War Is Beginning » has been released in may 2013. How is the
welcome ?
So far, a good
response from our music listeners. Starting of our tour in several cities in
Indonesia, the interest music lovers to us is very good and we think it will be
good for us in the future.
Did you have some
difficulties during the recording to face on ? What is your experience
now ?
Yes, we did. Many
difficulties in preparing our album. Started from the preparation of the
materials in each of our songs, some preparation for the album promo, up
against the ego in each personnels. But
we can skip all well. And it's a good lesson for us in the future. We
thank the many friends who helped us in preparing this album as manager &
producer Pisma Rizki, our art director Rian Oktanto, music arranger and
composer Reza Vertical, and our friends communities for helped us in our tour
album in Surakarta, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and Bali. In our experience now, with what we've
learnt in our past experience we could do the best in the future.
The last track on the
album is a Black Dahlia Murder cover. What is the band’s position in your
music ? Why this track ?
We are very
thanksfull to TBDM as our influence, because them, we can put together our ideas and some thoughts to put into our
materials. And because The Black Dahlia Murder, we know the genre of Melodic
Death Metal that can demonstrate that we are. Which according to us, uniting
our vision on this album. Actually there are some songs we wanted to cover
TBDM, maybe "Deathmask divine" brings us more dives in our genre.
What are your musical
influences ?
Many bands or
musicians influenced us, each personnel each have influence. Such The Black
Dahlia Murder, All Shall Perish, Necrophagist, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Yngwie
J Malmsteen and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Your artistic
influences (literature, cinema, movies, myths...) ?
We have more
literatures for materials for our albums, like Surabaya War Files, Physicology
liteartures, e-book, Rolling Stone Magz, Metal Hammer and many more.
What the lyrics are
talking about in your tracks ?
Much we try to convey
through our albums, such as : « To Fight My Future » readiness
telling us to prepare for the future, « The Great War » which tells
the story of the war in our city, Surabaya in 1941. « Such Of Honor »
which tells that in each position it will be many who oppose us. In outline,
this album tells us that we must be ready to fight the battle from outside and
within ourselves (ego).

details about your album artwork ?
The artwork was made
by Rian Oktanto (http://www.facebook.com/rian.oktantoart). This design is a representation in line
about our album « War Is Beginning ».
You have some lives
on your credit, especially in Indonesia. Do you have more dates planed ?
Absolutely yes, we
have more dates in 2014. One of them will be a new material for our new single.
Do you have some band
you would like to share the stage ?
We want to share the
stage with The Black Dahlia Murder, Megadeth, Diementia, Coffin Syrup and bands
from your country as Arkan. We shared the stage with anyone, we will always be
enthusiastics and show our best performances.
What are your plans
in the future ?
We are excited to be
able to go international, and always work in accordance with our idealism in
accordance with our music. And it could be an opportunity to participate in
compilation Metal Hammer.
