Interview | GODSLAYING HELLBLAST (Black Metal - Turquie) January 2017

Today, let's shed light on Turkey with a double-interview. First of all, Godslaying Hellblast, a formation arising out of underground since 2007 that's coming back this year with a split in collaboration with Sarinvomit. The exchange with its leader will allow us to discover a bit more this band, which is undeservedly quite unknown in France! You will see that those are straightforward bands, who do not waffle when they have something to tell you.
On the other hand, a second part will focus on the Kadikoyan cult scene, a brutal, underground-attached scene, which made us discover a few gems. But this scene also gathers extremely united members, and fills almost all the national underground scene with life on its own. It has much to tell you, and many things to make you discover through its members such as Abomination Demonseed (Godslaying Hellblast) and more guest.

01. First of all, let's start with Godslaying Hellblast. How did the idea of forming the band come to you? And by the way, where did the idea of this utterly Old School name come from? Can you present this band to those of our readers who might not know you?

Back in 2006 there was another band called Nox Lamentor and they were looking for a new vocalist. I told them I could help with that, to which they said ok. The band name was accidentally found by me while I was in the kitchen to fetch myself a beer haha. I don't want to get into details about the line-up changes since there have been many. Nowadays Godsalying Hellblast consists of Godslayer on guitars and Bass, me on Vox and Onur on drums. We've been trying to put out the sickest and vilest music we could create since day one.

02. As soon as you released your soberly called "Godslaying Hellblast" demo, your music's bases were already set, with furious vocals, and a martial and brutal rhythmic section. What was the reception of this demo? I'd like to underline that the riffing and vocals allow to identify the band, like a trademark. Was this strongly intended?

The demo was received pretty well from all I remember, actually we found a label only two days after recording the demo. As for riffing, that demo showcases a different perspective from Godslaying Hellblast's one since two of the songs belonged to our then bassist, Sinister Seed. After his departure all songwriting process has been mainly managed by Godslayer. Actually that demo simply reflects the peak of my own personal life. February 2007, it was a month to remember. Hard to believe a whole decade has passed since then.

03. On this demo, a tribute to Von can be foud on the "Lamb" cover. I guess this band influenced you? What other bands or scenes influenced the band's universe?

There are many of course but if we had to narrow it down to a few bands, that'd be Beherit, Von, Blasphemy, MayheM, old Darkthrone, Katharsis, Antaeus, Funeral Winds to name a few.

04. I'd like to come back on a quite important thing: your lyrics. They go beyond satanism, and deal with something deeper, somehow linked with society, but precisely under the cover of satanism, am I mistaken? The band's lyrics are totally blasphemous, where does all this hatred come from?

Many people thought our new song "Against Fucking Shitstanbul" has a social side to it, but that's not the case. My lyrics mainly focus on themes like misanthropy, hatred, perversions, self destrucion/self-desecration, abominations, death and torment, all reflected from a Satanic point of view. All this hatred most probably comes from living in a country which is getting more conservative and fucked up in each passing day, the daily bullshit we come accross and trying to survive within a nation that constantly tries to impose their agenda of self deceit and herd mentality. It's living in Turkey what really gives us that hateful edge, I can assure you that.

05. Who's in charge of the writing of the lyrics and of the composition in the band? Are you close to being a dictator, or do you listen to your musicians, as well in terms of music as in terms of lyrics? Everyone has their own way of writing lyrics, is there a specific ritual for the creation of your canticles?

The lyrics are completely handled by me. Compositiosn are generally made by Godslayer, but each and every member that took part in Godslaying Hellblast has the right to have say about the compositions. So we mostly make the last organizations together. Nothing dictatorial at all I'd say. Btw, we have to send hailz to Kasil from Hellsodomy, since the other track on the upcoming split was mainly written by him.

06. The band splitted in 2012 before coming back, why did you need this pause? After it, Haagenti left the band, can you tell us why? He did bring something more to your music.

There used to be time when the tension within the band was totally fathomless so we decided to put things in ice for a while. Losing a band feels easier that ruining long friendships that's why we needed a hiatus. Haagenti and Kasil left in 2014 after some musical disaggreements, they've been doing a fantastic job in Hellsodomy ever since. Haagenti, still my best fucking friend, poured so much vision into the band, we can't thank him enough for his efforts.

07. To this day, you only released splits, demos and EPs; your next release will be another split. What do you enjoy so much in this format? And what are the conditions to share a release with you? How do you and the other bands contact each other?

There's no reason that we specifically release splits, if a good offer come we take it. We want to be involved with bands who have similar views to us and play killer metal. As for the bands, Deggial and Malefic Order were our brother bands back tha n so we decided to crown it with a split. We have had a great contact with Shaxul since day one, he has been supportive of our bands so when he proposed a split with Manzer we were more than happy. And Haagenti had  some contact with Necroholocaust so we asked them if they were in for a split and they aggreed.

08. You released a split with the French band Manzer, which has a particular connection with Eastern countries. How did this collaboration go?

We came in contact with Shaxul back in 2005, while starting our old band Malefic Order. Like I said on the previous question, he's been very supportive for our bands, so it was fitting we made a split together.

09. Even if the band has been existing for 10 years, you still haven't released a full-length album. Why won't you take that step?

Godslaying Hellblast has been around since 2006 but the for last 5 years it's een almost dead. So we didn't have time to do a full-length. But we're planning for one now, hopefully we'll be able to complete it within 2017.

10. Something surprised me when I prepared this interview. I did some web searching to find some reviews or other interviews, in order to give you and our readers the best possible interview, but I found no review or interview. Does the band usually refuses to play along with the press? Or are there other reasons? Given the band's reputation, I was really surprised by this.

I try to answer all interviews, except when the questions are fucking bland and boring. Most of the interviews we took part in were published in various underground fanzines. I think most of them didn't get on the internet somehow.

11. Unfortunately, I missed your French gig, so I watched some of your live shows on the web, and I have to admit they are bestial, brutal and totally addictive. One is easily captivated by your music's fury. What does going up on the boards mean to you? And do you intend to come back in our country?

The France trip was one to remember for all eternity! Scoring shit in pigalle and then rolling through Paris and causing noise and mayhem was great fun, as was the night in Valenciennes. Of course we'd like to come back, but live show are not in the horizon at this time. Mostly we drink like swines before hitting the stage so when we do, we're already simmering. I'm nota total asshole at normal times, but whenever I hit the stage, i get that mean son of a bitch aura and looks like the other guys do that too. Especially if the crowd get motivated and causes fucking carnage at the hall, it's a big bonus for us.

12. This year, you're going to release your first recording since your reunion with your compatriots from Sarinvomit. What should the fans expect? I've had the chance to hear it, and I wanted to say that the artwork is astounding and completely representative of its content, of this hell about to strike the earth. Any idea of the release date? Are you satisfied with Misanthropic Art's work?

They should expect whatever they expected from us on this split, we didn't change at all. Mean, nasty, disgusting, vile and filled with hatred as always. Actually this split was planned to be out in 2015, but numerous delays happened due to different circumcisions. As for the artwork, I'm totally satisfied. Misanthropic Art has created a great great and unique artwork. Big fucking hailz to Misantropic Art for that!

For this part of the interview, I focused on your band. For the second one, we will be joined by your comrades to talk about your scene, to exchange and discover all its different appeals. Thank you very much for the time you granted me for this first part.
